Annual MSWPS Members Award – Liz Moore Golding

On December 5 I was pleased to be awarded the annual MSWPS Members Award. This is a peer voted award and against a very fine field of artists, I am very pleased to have won.

I was inspired (and encouraged by member Annie Finkelde), to paint the triple portrait, below, basing it on a 1930s painting by artist Rollo Thompson. This painting is described as being of ‘significant MSWPS women’ and hangs in the Ola Cohn Centre. This is Ola’s former house and is where MSWPS members are able to meet regularly. The painting depicts (L to R) Marjorie McChessney Mathews, Annie Davison Oliver and Ola Cohn. My painting I have called ‘Collective wisdom’, (thanks to member Michelle Endersby for her suggestion). It is oil on linen, framed and 95x64cm. These three women are also significantly important members. They are (L to R) Marion Chapman, Jo Reitze and Joan Richard. All have been or indeed still are, long time and distinguished office bearers and committee members of MSWPS, contributing to the strength and stability of this important women’s arts organisation. They were captured at the old fashioned and historic train station waiting room in Ballarat, where members had visited the Art Gallery.
