Cloudehill 1
‘Cloudehill 1’ immortalizes an aspect of Cloudehill, the renowned cool climate garden in the Dandenong Ranges. Glimpsed through the foreground fronds of a dramatic potted Cordyline are suggestions of the bespoke path leading to the structure beyond the Water Garden that both identify the location and create depth.
This large oil painting of the Warm Border is freely executed with lyrical mark-making. Vibrant colours are enhanced by strong tonal contrast. As in nature a variety of green hues unify this composition and complement the foreground reds and maroons. My painting celebrates the beauty of nature and the restorative power of gardens.
