East Gippsland Waratah

The East Gippsland Waratah is to be found in the Glen Arte River valley within the Murrungowar Forest, part of the waratah’s limited range in eastern Victoria. In the mist shrouded valley the brilliant florescences of the waratah burst forth with vibrant colour in early spring. Later, the seed pods also burst forth to ensure the reproduction of the species, Both the flowers and the seedpods hold their own intrinsic beauty, I have painted in watercolour on prepared Khadi paper and have used many layers of wash to capture the glimmering light.
