Kinglake – Contrasts
After Victoria’s Stage 3 Covid19 lockdown I visited rural Kinglake. I wanted to view some of the sites I had painted many years ago and to enjoy the wide open spaces once again.
The country side was lush and green after heavy autumn rain and as I walked in the field there was a chill in the air from the cold wind but it was a peaceful area to be in.
A strong visual contrast was evident when comparing the starkness of the dead trees to the central tree which stood large and almost defiant as if on guard, for in the summer of 2009 Kinglake along with many surrounding towns suffered horrendous bushfires. Lives were lost and there was much destruction and pain caused to flora and fauna. A very befitting memorial stands nearby in honour of all those who suffered.
