Lazy Sunday, Langon, France

This watercolour entitled “ Lazy Sunday, Langon, France” transports me back to happy times, whilst on vacation in the South West of France, two years ago. I had driven over that bridge many times, on my way to different destinations, glimpsing fleetingly at the cluster of Provinçial homes, dominated by its church steeple and I promised myself that I would stop there one day, to have a closer look.

My visit on this Sunday morning didn’t disappoint. The shape and textures of the old walls, the soft mysterious shadows of an early autumn morning, the quiet water of the river and the vertical of the church steeple, all of these elements contributing to a sound composition. Most of all, I have endeavoured to convey through this work, the sense of peace and serenity which I felt at this time.
