Lon Garden in Spring

Lon Garden in Spring portrays an aspect of the beautiful drought-tolerant garden at Lon Retreat & Spa, Point Lonsdale where I was a Lon Artist in Residence from January 2022. This painting shows this location is at its lush best with the blue, purple and unusual pink Echiums flowering profusely. Foreground Gazanias flowers and foliage fill the front, set against native bushes and the strappy foliage of Wild Irises and distant Gazanias. The darker tones of the trees behind create the illusion of depth as do the glimpses of paddock and sky. This painting freely captures the essence of the scene with lyrical mark making, achieved mostly with small, flat Taklon brushes. It celebrates the beauty and restorative powers of nature and gardens.
