The Procession of Mourners, Westminster
My artworks are often inspired by contemporary events and life.
Queen Elizabeth ll ‘s farewell at Westminster Abbey on the 19th of September 1922 was an occasion observed on screen by many.
As an artist, I interpreted a pageant of contrasts of light, colour and shapes, and of spiritual motifs.
Black mourning dress consolidated the attendees into one dark mass, individuals delineated only by a silhouette of light from the open doorway as they entered.
Clerical attire, sometimes coloured was a contrast.
The offset placement of the figures indicate the slow procession from the daylit entrance to the darker interior.
