Smoke and Dust December “19” by Margaret Picken is the current featured artwork on The Website Homepage and Facebook Page. Margaret’s painting was awarded Highly Commended at the 111th MSWPS Annual Changing Perspective exhibition, judged by Amanda Hyatt.
The judge’s comment:
In this case tone does all the work and the artist uses a reduced colour palette. The dimensions of the painting measure up into fifths horizontally and create the balance for the painting to work. There is a sense of calm, mood, atmosphere and mystery. A minimalist painting with sufficient punch to compel the viewer to look more closely at ‘ what isn’t there’. A nice piece of minimalist, realist, romantic art. ‘What isn’t there’ is as important as what is.
