Helen Carter

Studied: Council of Adult Education, Victorian Artists Society Tutors: Ming Bellamy MacKay, Betty Parsons, Pat Shannon, David Taylor, Margaret Cowling

Helen has been drawing and painting for more than thirty eight years. Her father who was a student at the National Gallery of Victoria Art School in the days of Charles Wheeler and Paul Montford always encouraged her to draw, and for this she is eternally grateful. Art has always been a constant in her life from early school days to the present time. Subject matter includes figurative studies, portrait, and landscape. Pastel, oil, acrylic, charcoal and ink are her chosen mediums. The challenge and process of creating from the initial concept through to the planning and development of a work to completion gives her enjoyment and satisfaction. Weekly life drawing sessions at MSWPS provide excellent subject matter and many sketches are developed further for exhibition. Helen also considers herself fortunate to have excellent subjects within her immediate family and they feature prominently in her work.

Work has been shown at society exhibitions, art shows, group exhibitions, and illustrated in the Australian Artist Magazine. A finalist in the A.M.E. Bale Works on Paper Award 2006,2008,2010,2012,2016. Formal portraits include Eric Risstrom AM, Robert James Knox Semple BEM OAM, Dyson Heppell Captain Essendon AFL.
