Artist Statement
In my art I endeavor to create something which has meaning to me.
Drawing and painting are my lifelong passions! Landscape and Nudes are my interests. I love the challenge of drawing the human figure. To capture the essence of the person’s femininity or masculinity, form, psychological and spiritual being.
Working outdoors and is a part of my art practice. I really love working with wet mediums such as ink and watercolour, managing them and letting them flow to achieve a result which is spontaneous, sensual and exciting!
I find when I am painting or drawing on site my work is more representative. Back in my studio I like to develop this into more powerful and abstracted images that remain figurative. I feel experiencing from life gives my work more authenticity.
I often paint in remote areas of Australia and love the colours of the outback. It is these stunningly beautiful regions that are often the inspiration for my work.
Living near the Bay in Melbourne provides me with constant inspiration. I love the changing light, subtle colours and moods of the sea. Depicting this complex beauty in my paintings, expressing the vibrant colour, form and spiritual atmosphere I aim to create’ a sense of place.
The National Film and Television Archive interviewed me in January about my years working in television as a Graphic Artist in the mid 1960s at ATV0 now Channel 10. File no. 1523867 Oral History interview.
