Artist Statement

After graduating in Fine Arts and Education, Patricia (Tricia) pursued a career in teaching secondary art for many years, including 28 years as Head of Art at Camberwell Girls Grammar.  She is inspired by travels in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Middle East, Asia, South Africa and South America. In recent times her interest in landscape and wildlife studies has evolved into a current passion for portraiture and life drawing.

She enjoys painting people, their emotions and relationships with the environment. Working from real life with models, whether nude or in costume, she finds particularly engaging.  Each model, each pose has a story to tell and her own personal response gives her work an important emotional connection with that story.  Technically, she works directly and fluently using charcoal, oil paint, acrylic or watercolour with little or no preliminary drawing, which gives the works spontaneity, vitality and authenticity. Portraits are a particular specialty. A recent exciting and enjoyable experience has been to create portraits of children where the children create the backgrounds and she superimposes their portraits over top. These collaborative artworks have proven to be very popular with the children, parents and grandparents alike.
