Suzanne Kaldor, Member of the Melbourne Society of Women Painters and Sculptors since 2003 arrived early and commenced her Artist Talk at 1.00PM sharp. The chronological order of her talk immediately engaged and held the attention of the audience of members Louise Foletta, Sue Jarvis, Annemarie Szeleczky (Suzanne Kaldor’s sister), Jo Reitze, Jocelyn Bell, Robyn Pridham, and Carmel O’Connor’s interest.
‘Hungarian born, my father was away during WW2, with as I was banned to participate in the1956 Olympics as two of my Aunts and their family were migrated to Australia in 1938 and 1948 the second Aunt. So I came with my family as REFUGEES. I turned 21 when the Dutch migrant ship arrived to Fremantle. We embarked in Melbourne as our Aunts waited for us. So we never went to any camp’.
Suzanne’s creative, competitive skills aroused by winning her first art prize at the age of ten years in Hungary with her sculpture of POPEYE. This was the beginning of a life long passionate enquiry into art.
Suzanne commenced exhibiting her works of Sculpture, Ceramics, Drawings, Paintings and Etchings from1970. ‘I had sixty SOLO Exhibitions mainly in Regional Galleries’, and many more group shows Group Shows through her affiliations with Craft Council Victorian Ceramic group, MSWPS, Beaumaris Art Group, Contemporary Art Group and the Firestation Print Studio. During her many years of art research; one of her most intriguing discoveries was that ‘the red reduction copper glaze evaporate during firing over 1280C as many more technical secrets were kept from us’.
Suzanne Kaldor will be publishing a book of her works and memoirs late May of 2019 through the Beaumaris Art Group – Member’s Gallery
