International Women’s Day 2018
March 8, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - March 10, 2018 @ 5:00 pm
MSWPS members may be interested in an exhibition currently at Trocadero Art Space, Footscray.
Organised by the Women’s Art Register on the invitation of Trocadero for International Women’s Day 2018.
There is a repeat of the slide show of 400+ women’s art works from 1840 to 2015 being shown in the stairwell at Trocodero. These include a number of artists associated with MSWPS including Sybil Craig, Margaret Baskerville Ola Cohn, Hilda Rix Nicholas and includes at least one MSWPS current member, Margaret Gurney. Works cover all media and styles from crochet to welded steel.
I have selected and arranged a gallery full of photocopied ephemera from the WAR archives from 1975 to the present day including an article in Chinese submitted by MSWPS Member Denise Keele-bedford and selected from her files.
In the main gallery are five emerging women artists, all working in different styles. Japanese Australian artist exhibits a delicate sculpture of printed and moulded rice paper body parts hanging on nylon thread. Sofi Basseghi’s video on clumsy unwanted suitors and Georgia McGuire’s flower sculptures made from paper bark will interest many artists with their skilful assemblage
